New Feature: RSS

Dear visitors

This site now also offers RSS-feeds. What's that? RSS is a way for getting a list of titles of new topics; often used for news. When you browse to a site like http://www.cnn.com, you'll notice an orange symbol visible in your Internet Explorer (version 7). In Firefox, the orange symbol appears in the address bar. This symbol now also appears when you browse to http://www.freerelationshipadvice.com When you click the symbol, you'll get a list of the 10 most recent forum entries. You can subscribe to the feeds if you like. This way the browser will keep the list actual while you're online.

The RSS feed is also handy if you want to check new entries from a mobile phone with an integrated RSS reader. Recent models support this technology. Just enter http://www.freerelationshipadvice.com/rssfeed.php as feed address. The site doesn't charge anything for this service, however the normal charges payable to your internet service provider will occur. The list is short (limited to 10 items) and will not display the whole contents of a message (only first 50 characters). This saves on time and cost. If you like, you may still click a link to read the whole article.

I'm using this and it's great, but I get stats posts evertime someone posts, so I can have 5-10 of these each time I'm in the reader, it's kind of weird. Can it be set to send one a day instead?

Well, the statistics feature serves to help you figure out whether you missed any entries since you last checked. Let's say, on your last check the "posts today" count was 2, next time it's 15. Because the reader always displays the most recent 10 entries, this would mean that you haven't seen 3 posts. If the counter is still the same, you can be (quite) sure no new entries were added.

If you prefer the statistics part not to be displayed, you can enter http://www.freerelationshipadvice.com/r ... hp?stats=0 as URL. Any other value of the stats param (or not adding it), will display the stats.

The parameter 'details=0' will hide the details. Thus, if you enter http://www.freerelationshipadvice.com/r ... ?details=0 you will see the statistics only.

This way you're free to decide what format you prefer (posts AND stats; posts only, stats only). Do NOT combine the params as in ?stats=0&details=0 or ?details=0&stats=0. This would provide an empty screen ;)

New Feature in RSS reader

Postby markus » 03/22/08 06:29 pm

Hi all

I just added a new feature to the RSS reader: it can now also display the list of the unanswered posts, rather than the one of the 10 most recent ones. This may help those who want an overview on what needs to be answered. The URL is: http://www.freerelationshipadvice.com/r ... unanswered

If desired, it can be combined with the "&stats=0" option.

The list basically only displays the items that need to be answered and excludes items like poems etc...

The functionality of the RSS readers keeps getting enhanced. Stanza's wish to select only one day can also be fulfilled now.

We now support following functionality:

If there are any questions regarding the usage of our popular RSS feed, add your comment, just as stanza did. You preferably add bookmarks to your favorite feeds.

See also our Thread RSS: Changes / Outlook 2007 support on how to load the RSS feeds directly into MS Outlook 2007. Accessing RSS from Outlook is specifically convenient because

  • You don't have to visit the site
  • As in your inbox, you always have the history of "old" items at hand
